On September 30, 2020, the Government of Ukraine adopted amendments to the normative act, which will increase the wages of polar explorers by two and a half time. From now on it will be about 54 thousand hryvnia per month.
“On the eve of the 25th anniversary of the transfer of Akademik Vernadsky station, the Ukrainian government, for the first time in two decades, turned its attention to a small numerically but extremely important for Ukrainian science group of enthusiasts – polar explorers. This became possible thanks to the joint efforts of the Ministry of Education and Science, the National Antarctic Research Center and the Ministry of Finance of Ukraine, ” Serhiy Shkarlet stressed.
“Until today’s historic decision, the salaries of Ukrainian polar explorers remained for years the lowest among all three dozen countries of the prestigious “Antarctic Club”, which in no way corresponded to the contribution of these people to the development of Ukrainian science and enhancement of the international prestige of our country. Finally, we will not be ashamed to look into the eyes of those, whom the Motherland sends to carry annual extreme summer watch 15,000 km from home, and we hope that this will affect the announced competition for participation in the next 26th Ukrainian Antarctic expedition, “said Evgen Dykyi, NASC Director.
The Government Resolution “On Amendments to the Decree of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine of January 28, 2000 №140 “On remuneration, guarantees and compensation for employees assigned to work at Antarctic Akademik Vernadsky station ” will also apply to the members of the25th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition, which now works at the Antarctic station, as well as to members of the next 26th UAE, the competitive recruitment to which has been recently announced.
