On September 28, 2020, the National Antarctic Scientific Center of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine announced a competition for selection of the team of the 26th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition for 2021-2022. Documents will be accepted till October 12, 2020.
The winners will conduct scientific research or ensure the operation of Akademik Vernadsky station in Antarctica throughout a year – from spring 2021 to spring 2022.
For the 26th UAE we are looking for 12 participants: 7 scientists, a doctor, a cook, a diesel operator – electrician, a system mechanic and a system administrator. Scientists should work in the following areas of research: geological and geophysical sciences, physical sciences and life sciences.
“The 26th Ukrainian Antarctic Expedition is a kind of anniversary one, because in 2021 we will celebrate 25 years since the raising of the Flag of Ukraine at the former British Faraday station, which is now called Akademik Vernadsky. Given the COVID-19 pandemic, a special attention will be paid to the physical and psychological health of candidates during the selection of future polar explorers,”said Evgen Dykyi, NASC Director.
In general, the selection will be carried out in four stages:
- Submission of documents – until October 12, 2020 inclusive;
- Submission of additional documents in case of being preliminary positively selected – until October 26, 2020 inclusive;
- Professional interview, medical examination and psychological testing;
- Collective training for those who will be preliminary positively selected for the expedition.
More information about the requirements for each specialist, terms of the competition, the level of remuneration and social guarantees can be found in the official announcement.
We recall that the first open competition for the selection of polar explorers was held in 2018.
