A unique photo exhibition “Ukraine in Antarctica: Exploration and Invincibility”, created by the National Antarctic Scientific Center, has started in the city of Dnipro.
The grand opening took place on November 16, 2023 in the creative space “House on Troitska”. Participants of the event were able not only to see 27 vivid photographs about Antarctica and the work of Ukrainian polar explorers, but also to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of the icy continent thanks to the stories of record-breaking winterer Yurii Otruba.
“The first Antarctic photo exhibition was created back in 2019 to popularize polar science and tell people more about Ukrainian expeditions to Antarctica. This year, the exposition has been significantly updated: it reflects the impact of a full-scale war on our Antarctic program, and the development of research that has taken place in recent years,” he noted.
We remind you that Yuri is a geophysicist. He has already wintered at Akademik Vernadsky station 7 times, and has already been the head of the expedition twice.
In addition to photographs, various polar artifacts were presented at the opening: chevrons of the station, NASC, expeditions and RV Noosfera, feathers of Antarctic birds, embroidered shirts vyshyvanka with whales and penguins, etc.
The exhibition will be open in Dnipro until November 28. You can visit it from Monday to Friday, as well as on Saturday, November 18.
Opening hours: from 11:00 to 17:00
Address: Dnipro, Troitska square, 5a.
Free entrance.
We invite you to visit the exhibition. Antarctica is getting closer!
