On September 28, the updated exhibition “Ukraine in Antarctica: Exploration and Invincibility” has opened in the Central City Library of Zaporizhzhia. It contains 27 collages with photos from the icy continent – according to the number of years of Ukrainian exploration of Antarctica.
The exhibition was presented to Zaporizhzhia citizens by our record-breaking polar explorer Yurii Otruba, who has already spent 7 winters at Vernadsky station. Based on each of the photos, he told in detail about the life and work of Ukrainians in Antarctica, as well as the unusual nature of this region.
“We are happy that even in difficult times of war, people are interested in the topic of Antarctic research. I am impressed by how different the visitors of our exhibition are: schoolchildren, volunteers, military personnel, scientists, journalists, pensioners…It is extremely important to maintain this interest of Ukrainians in science in general and Antarctic science in particular”, – Yurii Otruba shared his impressions.
The guests actively asked why it is necessary to carry out some research continuously and how they can affect the economy, safety and even just the life and health of humanity, were interested in the behavior of Antarctic animals, and also paid special attention to the flagship of the Ukrainian scientific fleet – the icebreaker “Noosphere”
The exhibition will be on display in the Central City Library of Zaporizhia (66 Gogol St.) for a month – until October 26. Then its journey will be continued around Ukraine, so watch for our further announcements.
