We are pleased to announce that the employee of the NASC Department of Biology and Ecology PhD Ievgeniia Prekrasna became one of the four fellows in the SCAR Young Scientist Program in 2021.
The scholarship provides Ievgeniia with the opportunity to conduct laboratory studies of Antarctic bacteria, sampled at Akademik Vernadsky station, at the University of Oulu in Finland.
The aim of the project is to study the mechanisms for interaction of bacteria with the Deschampsia antarctica plant.
By the way, women scientists from the NASC Department of Biology and Ecology receive this prestigious SCAR scholarship for the second year in a row: last year NASC representative Mariia Pavlovska became a fellow with a project to study the interaction of bacteria and phytoplankton in the Southern Ocean during spring “blooms”.
